"Harold's Glow-in-the-Dark Brand Butter" (S2E4 on Paramount+) is the fourth episode of the second season, and 17th overall, of KaBlam!.

Synopsis[]

Henry and June prove that things can even go wrong on KaBlam! with some outtakes. They also demonstrate ways cartoons tell everyone what's on their mind and June thinks of some jokes! Later on, the two co-hosts' voices are accidentally switched. To wrap up the episode, June pledges her loyalty to a product!

During Action League Now!, a number of suspicious packages are sent to the Action Headquarters, and once they're opened, they combine to form Hodge Podge, the former accountant for the Action League who was disfigured and poorly put back together after a blender accident. This maniacal madman is out for revenge, and nobody can stop him!

In Prometheus and Bob, Prometheus teaches Bob how to milk a cow, only for Monkey to get involved.

During Life with Loopy, Loopy's voice is gone after a bit too much fun, and discovers it is in an opera singer's mouth!

In The Off-Beats, August wants to be friends with the Populars, so he uses his Suave-O-Matic, which results in him getting taller and cooler with a deeper voice. The Populars befriend the new August, and all goes well until he decides to play paddleball, which causes the Suave-O-Matic to explode!

Henry and June Act 1
Henry&June Blooper Henry and June welcome the viewers to another "artery-clogging" episode of KaBlam!, as the show sign behind them crashes to the ground. They are shocked at first, but then laugh it off. Henry says the funniest moments on the show are the ones they don't plan, called "KaBlooopers!" June thinks you'll just call them "hilarious!" So, they encourage everyone to sit back for KaBlam!'s KaBlooopers, Flubs, and Miscues. Rolling the ugliness, the first outtake features Henry calling himself "Harry." June says if forgetting your own name is moronic, the next "ka-flub" shows Henry headless. June points and laughs at Henry, before he then falls out of the comic book and crashes. Finally, a backstage "ka-blooper" may redefine the term slack-jawed idiot, as Henry enters a restricted area and pulls a lever that electrocutes himself. Henry isn't happy all of the "ka-bloopers" were of him, but June didn't notice, as she continues to laugh. Henry says it wasn't THAT funny, but June says it was, almost as funny as Action League Now!. However, while turning the page to it, she trips over her director's chair and falls offscreen. Henry isn't going to say anything, before turning the page.

Action League Now!
Action League Now! Revenge of Hodge Podge

Revenge of Hodge Podge

At Action Headquarters, the Chief has issued a high-security alert, getting word that Hodge Podge has escaped the asylum and will be coming after the Action League like "a mad dog on a motor scooter" before the Flesh brings in unmarked packages. Thundergirl, Stinky Diver, Meltman and the Flesh all don't find anything interesting in them, as the Chief ponders what kind of wacko nutjob would send these kind of demented presents. Then, the pieces from the packages form Hodge Podge, who is glad he and the League could get "together!" Facing a ghastly blast from the past, the Flesh asks what Hodge Podge has against the League, but he says the "jerks" ruined his life, when he was their accountant. During tax time, he was the one that paid the penalty, as the Flesh (with his pencil) knocks the Chief to the controls of a blender, before the blender's lid falls off and hits a teaspoon that launches Hodge Podge into the blender, getting chopped into pieces. Then, the "med-school reject," Bill the Lab Guy, botched his operation. Thanks to everyone else, Hodge Podge is a "mutilated mutant," and complains it's not fair! Stinky says he's so sick of people moaning about how "badder" off they are, before he is cut in half and then admits Hodge Podge's story is sad. He then goes after the League, cutting them all up! Later that day at Big Kitchen Super-Secret Laboratory, Bill opens up a package. His daughter, Quarky, shows off a project made in science class, but he asks her to run along. She wants to be a scientist like him, but Bill says it's too dangerous and she is too young, as she should go practice ballet. Quarky pouts and says she hates ballet. With the present opened, it's the cut-up League. The Chief pleads Bill has to reassemble them, feeling like "Humpty Dumpty at the end of that story about Humpty Dumpty." Bill says there's nothing he can do, yet Hodge Podge was told the same thing and look how "nice" he turned out! Bill assures he was in a million pieces, and there really was nothing that could have been done. Hodge Podge calls Bill a hack, and there is something he can do; he can beg for mercy! Quarky comes out of hiding and tells the League she'll put them back together, to prove she's a scientist too.

Henry and June Act 2
Henry&June Imagination June says that the new Action League Now! villain, Hodge Podge, makes her so mad! Henry can tell, and so can the audience, thanks to the cartoon anger fumes surrounding her. June is then no longer angry and has an idea, as a lightbulb appears above her head, another way that cartoons tell the world what's on their mind. Henry asks June what's on her mind, and she has two words: "thought balloon." Henry says June isn't that much of a heavy thinker, so he generates a larger thought balloon, but a ton of bricks fall on him. Emerging from the rubble, he is surrounded by the ever-popular "birds of pain." June then gets another idea, to watch Prometheus and Bob as she directs the birds to turn the page.

Prometheus and Bob
Prom&Bob Milking

Tape #49, Milking

Prometheus asks Bob to watch him as he extracts milk from a cow. Bob doesn't care, even as Prometheus stirs the milk and offers a sample for Bob to drink. Instead, Bob goes over to the bin to eat with the cow. Next, Prometheus offers a hat for Bob to wear, but he pushes it off his head. Frustrated, Prometheus tells Bob to watch him as he extracts milk from the cow. Monkey then comes in to interrupt the process by putting the cow's tail on Bob's head, which scares him and the chair he sits in breaks apart. Then, Bob is finally learning how to milk from the cow before the Monkey hitches a ride on it! Prometheus tells Monkey to get down before the cow's hind feet knock Prometheus out cold, as Bob takes a drink of the fresh milk. Finally, Bob wears the milk bucket as a hat and goes for a ride on the cow, thanks to some help from Monkey. Prometheus wakes up and finds out that the cow is missing, and has his remote control stolen by Monkey. They fight over it before a herd of cows roam across, damaging Prometheus' saucer as Bob rides his cow into the camera, destroying it.

Revenge of Hodge Podge

Bill the Lab Guy tries to convince Hodge Podge not to drop him into the blender, but the maniac enjoys succeeding in his evil plan! Just then, Thundergirl appears, freakishly put together with the parts of the other members of the Action League, much to her terror as she looks at her reflection. Regardless, Hodge Podge sees Thundergirl and is lovestruck, dropping Bill out of his grasp, and walks towards Thundergirl, but she uses the Flesh's arm to punch Hodge Podge; this makes him land in the blender and is cut up once again. Thundergirl is satisfied, and asks if anyone is in the mood for "hodge pâté!" Quarky and Bill embrace, and she can be now known as Quarky the Lab Girl! Bill says that he was wrong and thanks her for teaching him something about being a parent. Bill then asks what Quarky did with the rest of the League. She tells him that she trashed them to keep the lab clean like he wants. Bill is proud of his daughter for following in his footsteps as a scientist. Outside, the rest of the League's pieces, including the heads of the Chief, the Flesh, Stinky Diver and Meltman, are in a dumpster bin that gets emptied into a garbage truck.

Henry and June Act 3
Henry&June Shark Missile June tells a joke to Henry...what do you call a cross between an archvillain and a truck that's Ram tough? A "Hodge Podge Dodge!" June bursts into laughter, but Henry isn't amused at all, asking if she is through wasting time and animation costs. June apologizes, before asking what one gets when you cross a boll weevil and a patriot missile. Henry isn't happy about another joke, but June says it's not a joke, as the boll weevil/missile is right behind, hitting him across the comic book. June was just curious about what it would be called, as she watches and hears an explosion in the distance, before turning the page to Life with Loopy.

Life with Loopy
Life with Loopy Loopyand the Lost Voice

"Loopy and the Lost Voice"

Larry asks if everyone hears what he's hearing...the sound of his sister, Loopy, NOT driving him crazy. But if one thinks it's always this way, that's not the case as on a recent Tuesday night, he is trying to get ready for his school's field trip before she comes in and acts like a "viking cheerleader from Venus." Larry tosses a textbook towards Loopy, but it misses and knocks a mini-rocket off a nightstand. Continuing to make a lot of noise, Mom says Loopy will lose her voice if she's not careful. The next morning, Loopy should have listened because her voice is gone! Larry gloats and says Loopy should go look for it! Most people wouldn't take his advice too seriously, but Loopy isn't most people, as she goes to the local lost-and-found. A pair of workers help Loopy with her problem as they lend a new voice until her old one is found. Loopy tries the first one given and it is a Hungarian-speaking female voice, which isn't the solution. The next one she uses is a chipmunk-like voice that doesn't work, either. Finally, she is given a low-pitch male voice — the "language of love" — it's a keeper! The lost-and-found workers ask for Loopy a description of the voice, which she calls "bad and beautiful, looking for love," and she admits it hasn't been treated right. It's determined that the voice came into the lost-and-found earlier, but it has already been given away to someone else, an opera singer, but the show is leaving soon. Larry wishes the opera had already left, as he sits front-row at the field trip "flop of the century." All of a sudden, Loopy shows up and asks the opera singer for her voice back, but the opera singer (Loopy's voice) proclaims she's found someone who takes better care. Loopy promises she'll give the voice "TLC from now until eternity." The opera singer spits out Loopy's voice, and then Loopy spits out the male voice, as the opera singer entertains the field trip with a groovy performance. All in all, Larry has gained a new respect for the opera, and Loopy has gained a new respect for her voice. Larry hopes the peace and quiet will last forever, until Loopy finds a new way to make a lot of noise...with a jackhammer!

The Off-Beats Intro

The Suave-O-Matic 5000

August is working on his paddleball skills, before the Populars confront him, calling his game "dorkball." August corrects them, but Tina counters by calling it "stupid" before she and the Populars laugh. August then gets tangled up in the paddleball's string, and a last "ha" from Tina knocks him to the ground, August saying that always gets him. August meets with Tommy, Repunzil, Betty Anne Bongo and September, telling them he's sick and tired of being a dork. Betty Anne says she and the rest of the group think he's fine just the way he is. September is asked if he agrees, but he has no comment. August guarantees he's not going to be a loser anymore, but Tommy says one can't become cool in a flash. August is going to prove his friends wrong as he brings forth a Suave-O-Matic 5000, guaranteed to make him cool as Elvis Presley "with half the fat." Repunzil is amazed and thinks August is turning cool before her very eyes, even though he hasn't even turned it on. Setting the device to "Coolness Factor 5," August's shirt changes. Repunzil asks if it is NOW on, and he, with a more manly-like voice, guarantees it is and calls her "toots" as he walks away. August approaches the Populars who are playing basketball, and Tina notices something "suave" about him now. August generates a basketball from his Suave-O-Matic 5000 and floats to the rim for an easy layup. The Populars are amazed, but August's coolness is just beginning, as he turns the basketball into a disco ball, and the Populars dance with him. September, Repunzil, Tommy and Betty Anne all look on at their new cool friend and want to hang out with him, but August is too busy being "suave." Taking the rejection okay, they leave without him. Repunzil wishes August was "dorky" again and misses him. Betty Anne says not to worry, as he'll come back and wonders how much fun he can even have with the Populars, as August then leads them on a skateboard ride, entertains with a magic trick and takes them parachuting. Tina says it's been the coolest day ever, and wonders what's next! August suggests a game of paddleball, but Tina asks if it's that dork game. Despite her questioning, August says he likes it, but his Suave-O-Matic 5000 engages in self-destruct sequence. Tina realizes August, who has reverted back to his normal self, isn't cool at all and was just wearing some "weird doohickey." Beth comes to the conclusion that once someone is a dork, they're always a dork, and the Populars laugh at August as he walks away in embarrassment. Repunzil is excited that he is back, but August knows he blew his chance to be cool and the Populars hate him more than ever. Despite this, Betty Anne says his true friends still like him, even if he is a dork. Tommy agrees, and September does too, even though he's paid to do so.

Henry and June Act 5
Henry&June Harolds glowing Butter Another "room-clearing" episode of KaBlam! has come to an end. June says it sure was "tasty" just like Harold's Glow-in-the-Dark Butter. Henry asks why is she talking about butter, but June says it's not just butter, it's Harold's Glow-in-the-Dark butter as the glow is how you know it's Harold's. Henry isn't impressed, as June says she's the official spokesperson for the product, boasting that she beat out Wesley Snipes. Henry is surprised, because as hosts of KaBlam! they have a responsibility, but he is interrupted mid-sentence as the lights go out. Luckily, Harold's Glow-in-the-Dark butter comes in handy and "it just tastes better when it glows!" Henry finds the switch to turn the lights back on, seeing June wearing a hat and t-shirt related to Harold's. Upset, Henry yells at June, but his cartoon anger fumes are melting the product. June then tosses the hat and t-shirt aside, and she promises to never promote the product again. Henry thanks her, as he closes the comic book.

Trivia[]

  • Glowing food does exist in real life. It works under the phenomenon of fluorescence. However, unlike the butter shown in the episode, real fluorescent food glows only when it has absorbed enough real light and it only works under black light. The light is also far more dim, too. For butter emitting a yellowish light such as seen on the episode, it most likely has to contain cooking oil and possibly ample amounts of Vitamin B12.
  • Loopy said "Mi a neved, mi újság, akarsz menni haza máma?", which in English (according to DeepL) means "What's your name, how are you, do you want to go home today?".
