Can Meltman, who claims to be personal friends with the band members of Kiss, do something to stop it?

In The Off-Beats, when September reads a report about the probability that a person in a group of four would be conked on the head by something falling from the sky, Tommy tries to leave the group because he seems to be the target!

Henry and June Act 1
Henry & June Intern Intro Henry and June welcome everyone to another "sinus-draining" episode of KaBlam!, and introduce a sturdy, young college boy — Lyle Baxter — the show's new intern. He is spending a semester to learn the "TV ropes" from Henry and June, self-proclaiming themselves as two of basic cable's hottest young stars. Henry asks Lyle if he has any questions so far. He actually does have one, but thinks it's kind of dumb. Henry says the first rule of broadcasting is that there are "no dumb questions." Lyle then asks about the slogan of KaBlam! — "Where Cartoons and Comics Collide!" — wondering what that really means. However, Henry and June can't give a clear answer, but instead offer him an opportunity to turn the page with them to Sniz and Fondue.

Sniz and Fondue
Sniz & Fondue in Great Infestation

Great Infestations

Sniz, Fondue, Snuppa and Bianca can only watch as their house is going under a deep clean. Sniz wishes the fleas stayed on his head exclusively, but they hid "zillions" of eggs around the house. Fondue is aggravated over Sniz messing up their domestic domesticity, but Sniz says life is better when he's loved. Fondue snarks that everything is a joke to Sniz, because they're on the street thanks to him and he doesn't care "one iota." Snuppa points out a large vacuum directed inside a window to swallow up a bunch of the insects. Fondue is amazed at how someone so small can cause a disaster so large, but Sniz assures that they're only out of their house for one night and to think of it as a dream vacation (as they board a bus, with one piece of luggage left behind). The four arrive to The Ferret Hole Motel, and Sniz wants to room with Fondue. Fondue refuses (even though Sniz is clean now), having enough of his best friend's "lifestyle" and if he doesn't get some Sniz-free reality, who knows what kind of syndrome he'll develop! Sniz is angry, as he lifts his shirt above his head, before he gets over it. Fondue, rooming with Bianca instead, boasts about a whole six inches of solid paperboard hotel wall separating him and Sniz, who crushes him with the connecting room door. Fondue then throws Sniz back into his room that he shares with Snuppa, as the door slams loudly and the handle falls off. Fondue proclaims that everyone stay on his or her respective side and bother his or her respective roommate. Snuppa reminds Sniz (who is actually showering) to lather, rinse and repeat, but after getting out of the shower, he realizes that he left his suitcase on the curb outside of the house, so it means "toga toweling" for the duration of the trip. They share a laugh as Fondue listens in from the other room, before Bianca tells him to cut out his pathetic ways. As Snuppa gets ready for some sleep, the phone rings with Fondue on the other end, who asks where Sniz is, but is told everyone else is going to bed. Fondue calls back, but is told the same thing. Bianca says he gives her major creeps, while Fondue thinks Snuppa and Sniz are freezing him out after all he's done, but Bianca then throws him out of the room. Shortly after, the phone rings again but as Sniz offers to answer, Snuppa throws the phone out of the motel and it hits Fondue (who was trying to reach them via a payphone). The next day, Sniz walks out to the balcony, finding a restless Fondue sitting on a float in the pool, who says his "psycho roomie" Bianca locked him out overnight. Sniz wonders why he didn't call, but Fondue says he did, and thinks Sniz should ask his "new best friend" Snuppa for the messages. Sniz admits that Snuppa isn't much fun anyway, because at 3 a.m. he had to stop jumping on the bed, and tells Fondue he wishes the two of them were roommates. The two make up for their earlier dispute, as Sniz gets a running start for a big cannonball into the pool. Back at the house, which is all clean, Sniz finds his suitcase sitting outside and prepares to open it. Snuppa, Bianca and Fondue try to prevent him from doing so, before it sends a tornado of insects around the house. Sniz jokes that the dream vacation has been extended, as Snuppa and Bianca agree to room with each other, while Sniz and Fondue look on at them nervously.

Henry and June Act 2
Henry & June Intern is a Klutz June is excited over Sniz and Fondue, but stops suddenly as Henry says to Lyle (who is blocking part of the camera) he makes a better door than a window, before he looks back, apologizes, and runs off. Henry hopes Lyle was paying attention, because the funny he just made was part of the second rule of broadcasting, to "be ready for anything." Henry goes on to say many of the "kablammiest" moments are when something goes wrong, as he and June are forced to just wing it. Lyle exhales and is sure glad to hear that, as his magic marker ran out and he couldn't finish writing the cue cards, which Henry is shocked as the stage manager sifts through blank ones. Henry and June stand in silence, as the page is automatically turned to Action League Now!.

Action League Now!
Action League Now! Rock-A-Big-Baby

Rock-a-Big Baby

At Garage Dome Arena, the legendary Kiss thrills an exuberant crowd with their signature song, "Rock and Roll All Nite." Thundergirl can't believe a schmo like Meltman can get her backstage, but he says the band members are old buddies of his and they used to jam together in high school. However, the usher stops Meltman (despite a claim that he's with the band), launching him away. As the concert continues, a cranky colossus named Big Baby awakens from a toy chest, finding the noise "too woud!" At Action Headquarters, the Flesh and Stinky Diver are letting off a little action steam, listening to "Rock and Roll All Nite" on the radio. The Flesh bangs his head up against Stinky's, causing it to be separated from his body. Suddenly, they hear and see Big Baby as he approaches them. Big Baby steps on Stinky's head as he walks towards a train set, destroying everything in his path. As Stinky puts his head back on, he realizes that Big Baby is heading for the garage. He and the Flesh board the Action Mobile and chase after him! Back at the concert, Kiss continues playing as Big Baby knocks down a door. He is mad, and plans to stop the concert so he can go back to sleep. Kiss stops all of a sudden, and while they don't remember Big Baby being part of the show, they claim to like it. Big Baby then tosses a speaker that lands on Meltman, as Thundergirl says it serves him right for lying about his presumed date with her and getting tickets to go backstage, but Big Baby swats her through a window and into the Action Mobile, which is on its way to the garage. This causes Stinky to lose control of it and drive into the road, where they all get flattened by a steamroller. It looks like Big Baby is about to get his way, as he picks up Gene Simmons and begins "teething." Just as it looks like Kiss is done for, Meltman plays "Rock-a-Bye-Baby" on an electric guitar to calm Big Baby. This plan works, as Big Baby releases Gene and falls asleep once again. With that done (along with the Flesh tugging the squashed Action Mobile into the garage), Kiss is now able to continue their concert, dedicating it to Meltman, whom Thundergirl apologizes to for not believing him before. All four members of the League dance along as Stinky accidentally shoots his spear gun into the air, causing the arena lights to crush them.

Henry and June Act 3
Henry & June Proper Micro Use Henry and June applaud the Action League Now! segment, and then June shows off her Gene Simmons imitation. Henry says he loves Kiss, but gets hit on the head with the boom microphone by Lyle. Henry scoffs about the college kids the show is bringing on, but June thinks Lyle just needs a few pointers. She tells him the third rule of broadcasting — "technique is everything" — before showing the proper way to operate the boom microphone; when conking Henry with it, one has to really give it to him. Lyle appreciates the help, saying he is learning so much. June tells the viewers if they're fans of head-conking entertainment, they will love the next cartoon, The Off-Beats.

The Off-Beats Intro

The Statistic

Tommy is jumping on a trampoline with the help of August, Repunzil and Betty Anne Bongo. Meanwhile, September reads in the newspaper where the Department of Safety estimates that one out of every four people will be badly conked on the head. Tommy stops jumping and August thinks it sounds "dubious," before they notice a foursome walking past and a telephone falling on the head of one of them. September bids farewell to his four friends, and they become tense. August says the four can't hang out anymore because one of them is going to get conked on the head, but Betty Anne thinks it's just a dumb statistic, because the week before she read that all people with mustaches are happy, before a man with a curly mustache walks by, maniacally laughing at the group. Betty Anne is now convinced, and wonders who will leave? Tommy volunteers to do so, even though August says they have to be fair about the decision, but Tommy sternly says he'll do it. Repunzil suggests a vote, but Tommy yells at them that he'll do it, saying it was nice knowing them as he leaves. August, Repunzil and Betty Anne are all playing with a trampoline (but no one is bouncing on it), as Repunzil feels like something is missing. Tommy plays a game of catch on his own, before Betty Anne, August and September meet up with him. Tommy says they shouldn't be here because one of them could be conked, but Betty Anne says that's a chance they're willing to take and Repunzil will watch the skies for them, which she boasts about having very good eyesight. However, an alarm clock hits her from behind, and Tommy runs away in fear. Tommy gets to a bus stop, but he notices he's with three other adults, as a ham conks one of them on the head. Then, Tommy runs to an elevator, where three other people are in it waiting, before a log conks one of them on the head. Tommy now is on the run to meet a boy and his horse, however the horse splits into two more look-a-likes of the boy, and Tommy runs away just before he is conked with a fire hydrant. With the group missing Tommy, August has decided to help by creating the TR-77. Betty Anne says it doesn't even look like Tommy, before the TR-77 yells that it isn't his fault! Tommy is playing ping-pong by himself, before the group meets up with him. They prove that a foursome is not bad, until a large suitcase conks the TR-77 in the head. Tommy backs away, saying he doesn't mind being by himself. Betty Anne assures it was a fluke, until a sheep lands on top of the TR-77's head. Tommy demands the group will go their way, and he'll go his. The TR-77, frustrated, quits. Tommy sits alone at the dock, before Betty Anne, August and Repunzil show up in a boat, but just pass by instead. Tommy looks up at the sky, before watching four turtles pass, as one of them gets conked on the shell with a rock. This gives Tommy an idea, where he meets with the group and puts on a helmet. Betty Anne, August and Repunzil do the same! August proclaims "all for one and one for all," as a variety of items come crashing down on their helmets, but there are no problems.

Henry and June Act 4
Henry & June Intern Overdescriptive As part of Lyle's internship, he gets to pick the next cartoon. He calls it an "iconoclastic pastiche of multimedia images blended together to create a seamless postmodern vision," but is interrupted when June hits him in the chest. She simply calls it The Adventures of Patchhead, as Henry turns the page to it.

The Adventures of Patchhead
Patchhead

Teed Off

Live from the Blue Collar Holler Kids' Golf Classic, commentators Critter and Dirtclod call the action, as they say "Kid" Kudzu has got the competition all wrapped up, shown taking a golf club from one of the participants to bend and twist into a "putter pretzel." With no competitors left, Kudzu is going to take home the grand prize of dog shoes! However, a boy with a watermelon shell on his head named Patch Head says the ball-whacking ain't over "until the fat caddy sings." Kudzu agrees to play, telling Patch Head to prepare for pulverization! On the first hole "Radiator Intimidator," Kudzu drives his ball onto the green, just missing the hole. Patch Head hits next, and notches the hole-in-one! Kudzu unveils his stealth ball, and as he and Patch Head play the "Heck of a Long Hole," the stealth ball evaporates Patch Head's and drops in for a hole-in-one. Critter and Dirtclod are tired, saying it's going to be a long afternoon of golf. Kudzu and Patch Head continue to compete, as Daisy the dog looks on (and sometimes, the golf balls hit Dirtclod). Critter says one can cut the tension with a chainsaw as Kudzu and Patch Head line up for the last hole of the competition, an outhouse named "Port-A-Hole." Kudzu tees off first, but his ball misses the hole, instead landing on the toilet paper roll. Patch Head prepares for his turn, but while he isn't looking, Kudzu trades out Patch Head's ball for a boomerang ball. Patch Head drives it off the tee, but it flings back towards him. Able to duck in time, it then strikes Kudzu on his head and he accidentally swallows it. Patch Head gets it out of Kudzu and it flies towards the outhouse and lands in the toilet for a hole-in-one as Patch Head is the big winner! Later, Daisy wears the shoes as Patch Head compliments them, driving his ball off a tee.

Henry and June Act 5
Henry & June Intern impersonating Tommy June thinks Lyle was right about The Adventures of Patchhead being an "iconoclastic pastiche of multimedia images." The lights in the studio start to dim, and Henry gets suspicious, wondering if Lyle snuck into the control room. However, it's just a performance where he will do impressions of the "kablammiest" stars of KaBlam!. Henry and June aren't amused, until he first performs as Sniz from Sniz and Fondue, as Mr. Foot and the stage manager snicker. Lyle then performs as Action League Now!'s Stinky Diver where Mr. Foot, the stage manager and even the janitor are all laughing. Henry and June are worried their show is being stolen by the intern, as Henry walks out to tell everyone to give a big hand to Lyle for his little schtick, until he turns into Tommy from The Off-Beats and recites a yelling line, as Mr. Foot, the stage manager and the janitor all are heartily laughing. Finally, Lyle is about to impersonate Henry just before he is hit with the boom microphone. June thinks Lyle's performance was truly special, and Henry tells him the fourth and most important rule of broadcasting, "never upstage the hosts." June then says farewell to the viewers and closes the comic book.

Trivia[]

  • First appearance on KaBlam! of The Adventures of Patchhead. Due to time constraints, the segment is edited (its title card is missing, some scenes are cut out and most voices are redone with the exception of "Kid" Kudzu's). The original version of it can be seen by clicking here.
  • Final appearance on KaBlam! of The Off-Beats.
  • Since the end credits run faster than usual in the episode, they feature only still images rather than video clips from the segments in the show. Season 1 episode "Built for Speed!" is the only other episode that does this.
    • The credits in this episode is the shortest in the series, lasting a mere 12 seconds (or 22 seconds credit music length) compared to the 14 seconds (30-second credit music length) in "Built for Speed!", not counting Season 2 episodes "Get Sam Donaldson's Mystery Bag" or "Hand Cranked For Your Enjoyment!" due to the lack of credits for the latter two.
  • Before this episode aired, Action League Now!'s Rock-a-Big Baby was initially shown in front of the 1997 film Good Burger (which found fame prior as a segment on Nickelodeon's All That). The short, because of the Kiss cameo, is excluded from streaming on Paramount+.
